CUMMING — A local organization that prides itself on its dedication to improving the lives of children, women and families has tickets available for its annual fundraiser, and the night will not be short on glamour and glitz.

The 31st annual Nite in Olde Cumming will be held as a benefit to Sawnee Woman’s Club 7 p.m. March 19 in the Three Chimneys Farm Clubhouse.

“This is a special night for our club. It’s the only fundraiser we do, and it must provide funds for a whole year of service projects … in the Forsyth community,” said Lisa Ann McDougald, event chair.

Guests will receive a red-carpet welcome as they arrive to the theme of “Putting on the Glitz” before being served dinner by Chef Kern Chiasson.

The night will feature live music and dancing from Band X, casino tables and upscale shopping for travel, events and accessories at a silent auction.

One winner will win a raffled Big Green Egg.

“We’re so excited to have our friends and neighbors across Forsyth put on their favorite cocktail attire and enjoy a chance to feel a little bit of Hollywood glamour, all while staying close to the community we serve,” said Sharon Lee, club co-president.

“This event is designed to be fun and light-hearted, but we’re very serious about the service work we do, so this is a fine opportunity for people who aren’t familiar with the club to learn about the charities we support and the issues that are important to us.”

The nonprofit’s recent projects include the Family Promise Bed Race and Festival, the Eggstraordinary Outdoor Art Project, Read Across America at Chestatee Elementary School, college scholarship awards, Treat the Troops and the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office Teen Interception Program.

The club is part of the General Federation of Woman’s Clubs, the oldest non-denominational, non-partisan, international service organization of volunteer women in the world. Membership is 10 million worldwide, with chapters operating in more than 20 countries and including 6,000 in the United States.

The local club has served about 100,000 volunteer service hours and given nearly $500,000 in support of local charities since 1985.

Tickets are $75 and can be ordered online or in person from any club member.

Fundraising is not the only purpose of the event.

“This is a fun, relaxed party, so prospective members have a low-key opportunity to socialize with current members to learn about the work we do in fine arts, education, environmental conservation, family stability and home life, public affairs and even how we support deployed military troops through international outreach,” Lee said.
