No boys allowed: All-female half marathon set for June
ladies

SOUTH FORSYTH — Fowler Park will be one for the girls in June.

The Ladies First Half Marathon/5K will kick off at 7:30 a.m. June 13, open only for women to run — though men can man the water and registration stations — as a benefit for Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta’s autism unit.

Participants can register up to the day of the race, said Craig Levan, who has organized all-women races in Florida.

“Women just get into it,” he said, “and that’s what makes it exciting.”

Registration fees vary based on when people sign up, though he said the half marathon is usually about $65 to $70, while the 5K is $40 to $45.

Those who register early enough will receive a race T-shirt, and all participants will earn a medal and be invited to a lunch reception after the race in the park.

Levan said the closest all-female run he found to Cumming was in Savannah, so this year is a test to gauge interest.

The event offers chip-timed numbers, with aid stations handing out items including water, orange slices, pretzels, bananas, cookies and jelly beans that will be set up every two miles of the route.

Overall finishers and age group winners will receive running apparel.

New this year to his events, Levan added a virtual race option so that “date conflicts, sickness, injury or last-minute family obligations are no problem. You can simply switch to the virtual race option and we will mail your race bib, tech shirt and finisher medal to you.”
