The national political atmosphere and its relationship to Christian values will be explored by several speakers this weekend.

First Redeemer Church will hold its annual Restoring America Conference beginning at 7 p.m. tonight.

"Basically, we want to provide insight from various people who know about the state of the nation in relationship to Christian faith," said Pastor Richard Lee, noting the conference typically draws large crowds.

"We have people drive in from all over the Southeast."

This year’s speakers include Greg Stube, a military hero; David Barton, a conservative historian; and Mat Staver, chairman of the Liberty Counsel, a nonprofit litigation, education and policy organization dedicated to advancing religious freedom.

Also slated to speak are: Scott Rasmussen, a political analyst and pollster; and Dinesh D’Souza, a New York Times best-selling author, who Lee described as "an expert on the life and history of President Barack Obama."

"If anyone is interested in what’s happening in Washington now and what is predicted to happen between now and the next election, they should attend," Lee said.
