What to know about Saturday's Play at the Park festival

Forsyth County Parks and Recreation and the Cumming-Forsyth County Chamber of Commerce will host the 16th annual Play at the Park Family Fun Festival on Saturday, Sept. 29, 2018.

Forsyth County Parks and Recreation and the Cumming-Forsyth County Chamber of Commerce will host the 16th annual Play at the Park Family Fun Festival.

The event is free to attend and park and offers family-friendly activities and entertainment.

“The annual Play at the Park event is a great opportunity for families to spend time together at the park for a day of fun,” said Parks and Recreations Director Jim Pryor. “This is a variety of exciting activities for everyone to enjoy and we are looking forward to another great turnout.”

From 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., there will be kids’ activities, family entertainment, food trucks, music and animal adoptions. Around 100 local businesses, community and shopping vendors will have booths. Food trucks will provide an array of eating options. Tethered hot air balloon rides will be offered, weather permitting.

PLAY AT THE PARK FAMILY FUN FESTIVAL

When: Saturday, Sept. 29, from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Where: Fowler Park, 4110 Carolene Way, Cumming, Georgia

FOOD TRUCKS

Who: Big C’s Chicago Kitchen, Big House BBQ, Grubbin’ Out, Peace of Pita, Deep South Biscuit Company, Blaxican, The Carnival Truck, Repicci’s, King of Pops, Daddy O’s Ice Cream, Kona Ice, Sweet Jeanius, Simply Done.

When: 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Big House BBQ and Grubbin’ Out will stay for the hot-air balloon rides from 6-8 p.m.

VENDORS

When: 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.,

Who: Up to 100 vendors will be in attendance, including local businesses, arts and crafts, independent consultants and non-profit organizations.

ENTERTAINMENT

When: 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

What: Face painting, petting zoo, balloon twisters, trampoline, photo booth, Touch-A-Truck, jugglers, stilt walkers, train rides, six bouncy houses, soccer kick game and a drum circle every 30 minutes starting at 11:30 a.m. Some of the Fowler Park playground is closed for resurfacing, but some will be open.

BALLOON RIDES

When: 6-8 p.m., weather permitting. The rides are about five minutes long. A decision will be made at approximately 5 p.m. on whether the rides will take place.

Cost: $5 for children ages 10 and under, $10 for ages 11 and up. Cash only. An ATM machine will be available on-site.

PARKING

There are over 1,000 parking spaces available throughout Fowler Park. There will be sheriff’s deputies and volunteers assisting festival goers with parking. Golf cart shuttles will be available from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. during the main festival time. There will not be shuttles available from 6-8 p.m. for the hot air balloon activities.

MISCELLANEOUS

What’s new: Additional portable restrooms, as well as a nursing station.

No, you can’t: Bring alcohol. Wi-Fi won’t be available.
