Democrats in the 9th Congressional District are focusing on next year.

Members from across the district gathered Feb. 12 at the party's new headquarters in Ellijay to start planning for the 2012 election cycle.

County party chairs, county state committee members and other active members discussed work plans for the year leading up to the primary.

Among those attending were Tom Colkett, chairman of the Forsyth County Democratic Party, and Angie Rigney, vice chair, as well as Sally Colkett and Ray Gillies.

They heard from Mike Berlon, chairman of the Democratic Party of Georgia, and R.J. Hadley, vice chair for county and congressional district liaison.

Margaret Ball, outgoing 9th District chairwoman, was recognized for her work in improving the organization and raising activity with county parties in the district.

David Robinson, new 9th District Democrat chairman, presented the work plan for discussion.
