Volunteers are needed between Sept. 27 and mid-November to run the local GOP election headquarters, slated to open 6:30 p.m. Sept. 24. It will be open from 10 a.m.-7 p.m. weekdays and noon to 4 p.m. on the weekend. To volunteer, call Peggy Green at (770) 772-0690.

Forsyth County’s Republicans are gearing up for November by making plans to open an election headquarters in downtown Cumming.

“The headquarters gives us a central location where people can drop by and pick up bumper stickers or yard signs or help us make phone calls and be involved,” said Peggy Green, Republican Women of Forsyth County president.

“It’s been very beneficial to have a headquarters during a presidential election.”

The party’s headquarters will be in the same venue as the 2008 presidential election, 316 West Main St.

Green said she’s in the process of recruiting volunteers to man the facility after it opens Sept. 24.

“We have people who are willing to stand out during rush hour of traffic just to wave signs at passing cars to remind them to vote,” Green said. “They are making a difference.”
