The city of Cumming is adding to its annual Memorial Day ceremonies.

The dedication of flags ceremony, which is set for 11 a.m. Friday at the Cumming Veterans War Memorial, has become a tradition for many local families.

But this year, the holiday has grown to include a second event two days later.

Twilight’s Last Gleaming, a musical tribute and video presentation, will honor about 300 Forsyth County World War II veterans on May 31.

The Noteworthy Show Band of the South, under the direction of Bob Russell, will perform music from the war era, including patriotic, big band and swing tunes.

The event begins at 8:30 p.m. May 31 at the war memorial. Patrons are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, blankets and picnics.

Friday’s flag presentation will include the presentation of colors and a 21-gun salute, though the fighter pilot fly-over has been removed due to military cutbacks.
