NORTHWEST FORSYTH -- Open space owned by the Forsyth County government will soon turn into a new park.
The Forsyth County Board of Commissioners awarded a construction bid on Tuesday to TriScapes to build Eagle’s Beak Park in northwest Forsyth for $1,367,460.
The bid was approved during a work session, at which the county’s procurement director, Donna Kukarola, said funding will be sourced from a $100 million Parks, Recreation and Greenspace Bond approved by voters in 2008.
Eagle’s Beak Park is located at 8420 Old Federal Road on about 225 acres, with the Etowah River flowing through its north side.
TriScapes is contracted to create an entrance to the park, parking, restroom facilities and a canoe and kayak river launch.
Of the 16 firms that received the bid for this project, five submitted bids. TriScapes was not the apparent low bidder, Kukarola said, and was selected because the firm proposed a shorter time schedule.
The difference between TriScapes and the apparent lowest bidder was reportedly $90,000.
