County offers free wood chips

Free wood chips are available to Forsyth County residents while supplies last from the county's roads and bridges facility on County Way.

A byproduct of normal county operations and construction, the wood chips are piled up in a mulch yard at the site.

"These wood chips are suitable for projects such as nature trails, landscape beds and large, soil-exposed areas," said Tammy Wright, the county's environmental program manager.

The wood chips aren't as high in quality as store-bought mulch, though Wright said they can be used for the same purposes.

Anyone who wants to pick up wood chips is responsible for loading and taking them away.

The facility is located off of Ga. 400, the first left after the Browns Bridge Road crossing.
