Cumming City Council hopeful drops out of race

CUMMING — One day after qualifying to run for the Post 4 seat on the Cumming City Council in the Nov. 3 election, John Crowe has withdrawn from the race.

According to city officials, Crowe made his decision Thursday based on a potential conflict of interest with his employer, Forsyth County government. Crowe is employed as a park ranger with the county.

His decision narrows the Post 4 field from six to five candidates: Christopher Light, Guy McBrayer, Dana Sexton, Marcus “Jack” Shoemake and Avery Stone.

The winner will succeed Ralph Perry, who chose not to seek another term in the seat he first won in 1979.
