During a meeting of the Forsyth County Planning Commission, a new dealership and Hindu center were among items discussed by board members. Once the planning board gives their recommendation to deny or approve, requests next go to the board of commissioners at a future meeting.

Hindu Center of Atlanta

What: The Hindu Center of Atlanta is seeking a conditional-use permit to build a 9,355-square-foot place of worship with a priest’s residence and 81 parking space on about 7 acres.

Where: 2010 Kelly Mill Road

Comments: After hearing from the attorney representing the zoning and nearby neighbors, District 3 board member Jessica Thorsen said she believed concerns from neighbors had been dealt with in variances added to the request, such as prohibitions for parking on neighboring lots for events.

Vote: 5-0

Audi dealership

What: A 79,000-square-foot vehicle sales dealership incorporating an existing building with 520 parking spaces on 12 acres.

Where: 6055 Bethelview Road, the site of an Ingles grocery store.

Comments: Thorsen said the variances would allow for landscaping and would limit when trucks could come in for deliveries. Other variances and conditions include that 100% of vehicles should be visible from road frontage and increasing the number of parking spaces.

Vote: Approved 4-1 with variances and conditions, with District 1 board member Bettina Hammond opposed.
