Parking crunch continues in downtown Cumming
Updated Parking Map

CUMMING — The parking situation in downtown Cumming likely will get a little worse before it gets a lot better.

On Saturday, the entrance to Mason Street was closed to help accommodate construction of a new 491-space, five-level parking deck near the County Administration Building. As a result, it’s no longer possible to park on the street.

“The work that is being done in that area is requiring that we close a portion of Mason Street,” said Jodi Gardner, a spokeswoman for the county.

Gardner said she didn’t know a definite time frame of when the street would reopen, but said that the county plans to open the parking deck by year’s end.

The parking deck is the second of two that are part of a $100 million 1-cent sales tax-funded project that also includes construction of a new courthouse and jail downtown. The first deck, on Castleberry Road, opened earlier this year.

Public parking is still available downtown at all times at the Castleberry deck, Cumming Baptist Church and the rear of Cumming City Hall’s parking lot.

Parking is also available on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday at Chalcedon Presbyterian Church and on an hourly basis behind the county administration building.

Permitted parking spaces at the churches will be marked with red dots.
