SOUTH FORSYTH -- Improvements are coming to a popular south Forsyth senior center.
During a recent work session, the Forsyth County commission voted unanimously to award a bid for improvements at Sexton Hall Enrichment Center to Patriot Construction Inc. in Crawford for $1,259,000.
The largest part of the project is an about 3,400-square-foot expansion on the back of the building.
“That’s by far the bulk of the area. The rest is [a] pull-through entrance, additional parking for the Meals on Wheels people and redoing the kitchen area. I think they call it a servery now,” Deputy County manager Tim Merritt said.
Among the improvements will be upgraded lighting and ceiling, a new entrance vestibule and a new canopy entrance.
Sexton Hall serves adults 50 years and older and offers a variety of programing including classes, exercise and musical activities.
Merritt said in a later interview the project currently does not have a start date but that Sexton Hall would remain open during the process.
The project is part of a special 1-cent sales tax program.
Sexton Hall is located at 2115 Chloe Road. More information can be found online at forsythco.com/Departments-Offices/Senior-Services/Sexton-Hall or http://bit.ly/1Ub00pU.
