SOUTH FORSYTH -- Sidewalks could be coming to south Forsyth roads.

During a work session this week, the Forsyth County commission voted unanimously to award bids for the construction of sidewalks on Caney and Old Alpharetta roads to Construction 57 Inc., at a cost of $858,034.

“This was issued for construction of approximately 2.2 miles of 5-foot sidewalk, shoulder widening, storm drainage and curb gutter,” said Larry Holtzclaw, contract administrator for the county.

The sidewalks will extend almost to Peachtree Parkway (Hwy. 141) on the Old Alpharetta Road portion and almost to Brookwood Road on the Caney Road side, and will provide access to the Caney Creek Preserve.

Per the county’s website, the Caney Road sidewalks will begin on the west side of the road, near Brookwood Road, before the sidewalk crossing to the east side at Glen Moor Drive.

From there, the sidewalk will stay on the east side until crossing again at Christopher Robin Road, where it will continue until reaching Old Alpharetta Road.

On Old Alpharetta, the sidewalk will stay on the south side and extend to the first driveway of Big Creek Elementary School.
Both projects originated from a special 1-cent sales tax.
