Towing cars, free Fair tickets and more at Cumming City Council meeting

The following items were approved at Tuesday’s Cumming City Council meeting. All votes are 5-0 unless otherwise noted:

Councilmembers …

  • Approved a policy for city employees and elected officials to receive free tickets to the Cumming Country Fair & Festival. Elected officials can receive up to 10 VIP tickets and 20 one-day tickets, while employees can receive six one-day tickets. Both can purchase additional tickets at the advanced ticket sales prices of $45 for VIP tickets and $5 for one-day tickets.
  • Approved a new ordinance that gives the city authority to have cars towed that have parked in city parking areas if they are still there after 10 a.m. the following day after they initially parked in the area, unless they get permission from the City Administrator to remain parked there for an extended period of time.
  • Approved for City Manager to negotiate with contractors on a new welcome sign at Pirkle Ferry and Maple Street at a maximum cost of $35,000.
  • Approved a permit for Victorious Vapors, LLC, to operate a vape shop at 1746 Market Place Blvd.
  • Postponed motion to award a bid for the installation of a water booster station with a 250,000-gallon water storage tank on Sawnee Mountain until Forsyth County Commissioners approve an easement to the city for use of the land.
