Despite a few hiccups, a new traffic signal on Market Place Boulevard by Wal-Mart should be operational by Feb. 15.

“It’s scheduled to go into a flashing mode the week of the eighth and should become active by the end of that week,” said Cumming City Administrator Gerald Blackburn.

City officials announced the project, which also includes a sidewalk, in September. Work began soon after. The sidewalks have been finished for some time.

The light was supposed to be operational by mid-January, but the weather forced a two-week delay.

With five contractors working on various parts of the project, coordination has also been difficult, Blackburn said.

“If we can come in that close, that’s pretty good for us,” he said about the delay. “We’re getting very close.”
