Traffic was stalled on a west Forsyth highway Monday after a cage of chickens fell off a poultry truck.

Forsyth County Fire Capt. Jason Shivers said the incident occurred on Matt Highway near Wallace Tatum Road and caused the road to be shut down briefly.

Shivers said there were about 150 chickens in the cage and when emergency responders arrived to evaluate the situation, they found the farm birds in various states.

He noted that some had been struck by vehicles and others were running around. Shivers said it was not clear why the cage fell off the truck and there were no concerns of hazardous materials spills.
