FLOWERY BRANCH – Maintenance projects will begin today along Interstate-985 in both directions, starting at the I-85/985 interchange in Gwinnett County.

According to the Georgia Department of Transportation, a total of seven projects will replace damaged concrete slabs from the interchange in Buford north to Lula.

These projects are supported by the Transportation Funding Act and were awarded to Georgia Bridge and Concrete LLC of Tucker, Kiewit Infrastructure Southern Company of Peachtree City and Precision 2000 Inc. of Atlanta.

There will be overnight lane closures beginning today in the northbound lanes of I-985 between Flowery Branch and Gainesville from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m., weather permitting.

“Daytime lane closures will begin on Monday, June 11 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the interchange of 85-I-985,” said Dana Garrison, maintenance engineer with GDOT.

The anticipated completion for these projects is five months, weather permitting.

The final portion in Hall County, located between Queen City Parkway and U.S. 129/State Route 11 is planned for late August.
