WEST FORSYTH — A man suffered severe injuries Friday afternoon when he was struck by a vehicle on Post Road, authorities said.

The incident occurred about 3 p.m. near Notting Hill Drive, north of West Forsyth High School.

The man had apparently just gotten out of a vehicle that had stopped in the turn lane to let him out when he was hit by a Nissan Sentra traveling in the opposite direction.

Mike Nelson, a traffic specialist with the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office, said the man was crossing the road in an attempt to get to a home in the Saint Andrews Crest subdivision near Notting Hill Drive when he was struck.

The man, whose name has not been released, was taken to an area hospital in critical condition. As of Friday night, there was no update on his condition.

The man was not in a crosswalk at the time of the collision, according to Epifanio Rodriguez, a spokesman for the sheriff’s office.

The male driver of the Nissan was not injured. The investigation into the incident is ongoing, though officials say no charges are expected.

Post Road was shut down for about 30 minutes as crews cleared the scene.
