OAKWOOD — The body of a man who went missing Wednesday night was found at 11:30 a.m. Thursday in about 60 feet of water in Lake Lanier.

Dan McGrath, 58, of Hoschton was found near where witnesses had seen him working on his vessel at Sunrise Cove Marina off Flat Creek Road, according to Hall County Sheriff’s spokeswoman Nicole Bailes.

The body will be taken for an autopsy at the DeKalb County Medical Examiner’s Office, foul play is not suspected.

Hall County Fire Services and Marine Rescue first responded to the call at 5:16 p.m. Wednesday to search for the man.

The scene was later turned over to the sheriff’s office for a dive team recovery operation.

Bailes said Thursday morning the Georgia Department of Natural Resources was able to provide search equipment called side sector sonar to help in the operation. A remotely operated vehicle also was used due to the depths and debris in the lake.

“Both pieces of equipment were utilized to locate Mr. McGrath, and once the equipment found him, the divers entered the water to retrieve him,” Bailes said.

She said the sheriff’s office searched for an hour Wednesday night and about two and a half hours Thursday morning before finding McGrath.
