Family, friends and colleagues gathered for a special ceremony Friday night honoring four Forsyth County Fire Department employees.
Firefighters Jarrett Jenkins, Michael Payne and Todd Sliger have been promoted to lieutenant.
The three, who are also emergency medical technicians, will serve as supervisors in the field.
Forsyth County Fire Capt. Kevin Wallace has been promoted to division chief of the fire marshal’s office.
“I am so pleased to promote these fine firefighters to their positions of authority,” Fire Chief Danny Bowman said. “The three new lieutenants will serve the county well and carry with them the weight of the safety and well-being of their troops on their shoulders.
"As for Chief Wallace, I am confident that he will lead a strong division and continue our tradition of responsive, responsible fire code enforcement and investigations.”
Wallace, who joined the department in 1997, said he’s proud of the new position.
“It is truly an honor and a privilege for me to be named as fire marshal of Forsyth County,” he said. “I began volunteering with the Forsyth County Fire Department in 1987 and have had the privilege of working with many great people along the way.
"I have a great responsibility in front of me, and I look forward to helping to shape the future of the Fire Marshal’s Office and serving the citizens of Forsyth County with the support and assistance of my staff.”
Jodi Gardner, county government spokeswoman, said Jenkins has been with the fire department since December 2001, while Payne came aboard in June 2003 and Sliger in May 2004.
Jenkins and Payne will work out of Station 5 while Sliger will be assigned Station 3.
