A popular Buford Highway restaurant has closed its doors.
On Monday, Maxwell Street Chicago Eatery on Buford Highway (Hwy. 20 east) announced on social media that the restaurant was officially closed after posting on Sunday it would be the eatery’s final weekend open due to “unforeseen circumstances."
“Due to unforeseen circumstances, this will be our last weekend open at Maxwell Street Chicago Eatery,” Sunday’s post said. “Family is where the heart is, and that's where we need to be at this time. It is bittersweet, but we are happy we will have more time with our loved ones now, as many of you know how time consuming a fulltime restaurant can be. We're going to miss all of you and the restaurant.”
The restaurant opened in August 2015 and featured Chicago staples including deep dish pizza, Italian sandwiches and hot dogs.
Previously, the restaurant existed as Johnny B’s Chicago Style Eatery before re-opening as Maxwell Street.
Representatives for the company could not be reached for comment on Monday afternoon by phone or through social media.
The restaurant’s final social media post thanked the community for its support.
“Thank you for all the outpouring of kind words and good wishes to our Maxwell Street Family. It warms our hearts to see so many of you that have come in and enjoyed our food and company. We appreciate everything and all of your support. We are officially closed.”
