District 27 state Sen. Jack Murphy, R-Cumming, was recently appointed to the Senate Transportation Committee by Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle.

In addition to his many leadership roles on other Senate committees, Murphy currently serves as chairman of the Public Safety Committee.

“Transportation issues in Georgia, especially in Forsyth and Cherokee counties, are extremely important,” said Murphy of his appointment.

“I am honored that the lieutenant governor has giving me the opportunity to serve on this vital committee as we work to make sustainable solutions for transportation issues throughout the state.”

As a member of the Transportation Committee, Murphy will work to regulate intrastate common carriers, including railroads, buses, trucks, vessels, pipelines and civil aviation.

The committee also handles legislation that relates to highway safety, inland waterways and any other means of transportation.
