Ga. 400 travelers will get a short summer break from having to pay tolls.
The State Road and Tollway Authority board voted unanimously Monday to suspend all Ga. 400 tolls for about a week as a project to upgrade the toll plaza in Fulton County gets under way.
No tolls will be collected from 8 Friday night to 8 p.m. July 1.
The total project will take about a month, closing various lanes of the toll plaza at different times.
Work on Cruise Card lanes will run from Friday through Monday, when crews will shift to the cash lanes.
The project includes installing new transponder readers in the cruise lanes and equipment upgrades — new gate arms, automated cash machines and video cameras — in the cash lanes.
The improvements will allow Ga. 400 motorists to use a Peach Pass or Cruise Card along the road, as well as on the new I-85 Express Lanes, slated to open later this summer.
