An application for a proposed Hindu center on Trammel Road has been withdrawn.

Forsyth County planning staff confirmed this week that the national Radha Madhav Society had removed its application for a conditional use permit to build the planned 70,000-square-foot Harmony Center.

George Butler, attorney for the society, said the contentious feedback received at a public participation meeting in October ultimately led the group to no longer consider the site.

"We took those concerns and comments to heart and decided we didn't want to be a bad neighbor," Butler said.

Residents near the 14-acre Trammel site, which is about 5 miles southeast of Cumming, expressed concerns about traffic capacity on an already crowded two-lane road.

Other worries included septic system plans, light, noise and times of worship.

Butler said the society continues to seek out a local site for its center, though it may not be in Forsyth County.
