Roadwork in downtown Cumming will start on Monday night and continue through the end of the year.

According to a press release from the Georgia Department of Transportation, from 7 p.m. on Monday through 6 a.m. on Tuesday, crews will begin a resurfacing project from Samaritan Drive to Samples Road.

The release said the work will “continue for the next few months” and that resurfacing will be done on both the east- and westbound lanes, weather permitting.

The entire project spans about six miles of roadway, including through downtown Cumming.

Drivers will have to wait for a pilot car to guide them through the roadwork during single-lane closures.

C.W. Matthews Contracting, Co. Inc. was awarded the bid for the project in March.
