The Rotary Club of Forsyth County was honored to have a visit from its GRSP student from 28 years ago, along with her family.
In 1990, Lidy Roelofsen-Leenders was the club's GRSP, or Georgia Rotary Student Program. She brought her entire family with her Aug. 9, when she returned to visit the club, and her two host sponsors, Bobby and Brenda Thomas and Dr. Shannon and Gail Mize.
Roelofsen-Leenders said that "seeing all the changes over 28 years was very emotional for me."
The family flew back to Arnhem, the Netherlands, last Friday.
Since 1946, Rotarians in Georgia, USA, have promoted world peace through understanding by offering scholarships to international students for one year of study in Georgia colleges and universities. Georgia Rotary Clubs sponsor students recommended by a Rotary Club in their home country.
The students become adopted members of a Georgia “host family,” living on-campus at the school they attend.
