The South Forsyth Rotary Club has raised $2,000 for The Place of Forsyth County.

The funds, which came from the club and a matching grant from Rotary District 6910, will help with The Place's annual Thanksgiving food box program.

The Place is a nonprofit social services organization that has been helping county families with emergency basic needs since 1975. It also operates a thrift store whose proceeds support agency operations.

Michelle Leak, club president, said in a statement that the number of residents who have found themselves in need for the first time is "growing at a troubling rate.”

“Rotary’s mission to provide service above self inspires this club to help provide the basic human necessity of food to our local community,” she said.
