Every Boy Scout lives by the two-word motto, “be prepared.”

From 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, Troop 425 will spread that message to the community with the Emergency Preparedness and Safety Fair at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Brannon Road in south Forsyth.

The free event will focus on several aspects of disaster planning, from weather to health to financial emergencies.

Several local organizations will offer information or provide emergency materials, such as the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office, the Red Cross and Community Emergency Response Teams, or CERT.

Flu shots will also be available at the event through the health department.

The event was coordinated by 13-year-old Joshua Anderson as a major step toward earning the Eagle Scout rank. He chose a safety fair as his project because he wanted to provide a service to his community.

“Hopefully, I can help people learn more and get the word out on emergency preparedness,” Anderson said.
