CUMMING -- Rates are going down for the rest of the year for Sawnee EMC customers.

Cumming-based Sawnee EMC’s Board of Directors recently approved a retail rate reduction for the rest of the year, which will mean an average reduction of about $11.30 for every 1,500 kilowatt-hour of energy used, meaning the cost reduction will vary by use.

“We are very glad that we can make this change for our members,” said Michael Goodroe, president and CEO of the electric services company, in a news release.

The reduction is the result of a wholesale power cost adjustment factor, “a billing component for most retail rate schedules by which Sawnee bills the electric accounts that it serves.”
