An upcoming event aims to help local seniors and their families with health screenings, finding local services and more.
On April 14 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., officials with Forsyth County Senior Services will host the 16th annual Senior Expo at the Forsyth County Conference Center at Lanier Technical College, at 3410 Ronald Reagan Boulevard. The event is free to attend.
“We’ll have a variety of resources in the form of local vendors that represent local businesses and organizations from senior living, government organizations, realty, legal services, just a wide variety of resources for the senior population,” said Julie Gruen, program coordinator for senior services.
Gruen said a big turnout is expected.
“It’s actually a very popular event,” she said. “It’s one of our premier events of the year, and we draw 1,200-1,500 attendees … I think everyone is drawn in by the great information and also good food and prizes.”
The event will also feature health screenings including vision, hearing and bone density.
“Our mission is to be a focal point where older adults join for services and activities that respond to their needs and interests,” Gruen said. “This is definitely something that fits into our mission by providing a place for the community to have access to local information and resources. It connects older adults and local businesses and organizations that serve their needs and interests.”
