An 80-year-old man has died after a two-vehicle wreck on Bald Ridge Marina Road, authorities said.

The collision was one of two Friday morning on busy roads near Cumming that sent people to the hospital.

A third wreck, which occurred just across Lake Lanier in Hall County, disrupted the commute on Browns Brown Ridge, a major traffic artery.

According to a Forsyth County Sheriff’s report, the collision at Bald Ridge Marina and Turner roads occurred about 11:30 a.m.

The report said Frank Norman Orris of Heard Road attempted to turn left from Turner onto Bald Ridge in a 1996 BMW.

According to the report, Orris failed to yield after stopping at a stop sign and the BMW was struck on its side by an eastbound 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe.

Orris was taken to North Fulton Hospital in Roswell in unstable condition. He later died as a result of his injuries, said Sheriff’s Capt. Tim House.

About 90 minutes before the Bald Ridge wreck, a sedan collided with a tractor trailer on Hwy. 9 at Greenfield Drive, southwest of town.

According to sheriff’s reports, a 1998 Freightliner FL65 was about three-fourths of the way through a left turn onto Hwy. 9 when a Ford Taurus crashed into its rear flatbed portion.

The driver of the Taurus, 50-year-old Douglas Jay Gibson of Sewells Farm Road, was taken in stable condition to North Fulton Hospital in Roswell, the report said.

According to House, Gibson was later charged with one count each of driving under the influence and driving too fast for conditions.

Earlier Friday, a 20-year-old Gainesville man was hospitalized after a wreck on Browns Bridge Road in Hall County, near Lake Lanier and the Forsyth line.

According to the Georgia State Patrol, the wreck occurred about 7:40 a.m. at Serene Shores Drive.

State patrol spokesman Gordy Wright said an eastbound Cadillac driven by Stephen Gordon crossed the centerline and struck a westbound Chevrolet pickup.

Gordon was flown to Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta with serious injuries, Wright said. The driver of the truck received minor injuries and was not taken to a hospital.

The back of Gordon’s Cadillac was heavily damaged and the truck overturned, coming to rest along the road.

The state patrol is handling the investigation.
