FORSYTH COUNTY — Anyone who has ever wondered what it is like to work as a firefighter has a chance to find out this fall.

Beginning Sept. 2, the Forsyth County Fire Department will present its first Citizens’ Fire Academy from 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesdays through Nov. 4.

Participants in the program, which will be held at the Forsyth County Public Safety Complex, 3520 Settingdown Road, will learn about the variety of services the department offers and about fire and firefighting equipment. They’ll also have a chance to interact with first responders.

“The opportunity for a Citizens’ Fire Academy is a great example of our continuing efforts to educate the public in both fire safety and the advantages of a modern and proactive fire department,” said Fire Division Chief Jason Shivers.

All participants must be county residents who are at least 18 and have no felony convictions. They will have to pass a background check and be willing make the 10-week commitment.

Those interested must submit a completed application and signed and notarized liability release and confidentiality agreement. The application packet is available at www.forsythco.com.

After completion, the packets should sent to Rebecah Green at the Forsyth County Fire Department, 3520 Settingdown Road, Cumming, GA 30028. Packets can also be faxed to Green at (770) 781-2194, or emailed to rlgreen@forsythco.com.
