Local authorities have now released new details about a one-vehicle wreck that killed a Gainesville man on Friday.

James Carl Barnes, 62, the driver of a 2006 Mack dump truck died after his truck went off the roadway and overturned while traveling north on Hwy. 9 near Glover Drive, according to a press release from the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office.

“The dump truck went off the right side of the roadway, then traveled left going back across the roadway before coming to a rest on its passenger side in a ditch,” the release stated.

At the time of the wreck, Sheriff’s Office Deputy Wendell DeJoie said that Barnes was trapped inside the overturned vehicle and was later pronounced dead at the scene.

Hwy. 9 was closed for several hours at Majors Road and Bethelview Road while the wreck was investigated, but was later reopened.

This crash remains under investigation by the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Specialist Unit, according to the report.
