FORSYTH COUNTY — Monday is the deadline to apply for a free program on fire and emergency services offered by the Forsyth County Fire Department.

The Citizen’s Fire Academy is a 10-week session that gives participants an inside look at the profession of firefighting by learning about the variety of services offered and “fire and firefighting equipment and interacting with first responders.”

This is the second year the local department has offered the limited-space program.

Starting Sept. 1, the upcoming session will take place from 6:30-9:30 p.m. on 10 consecutive Tuesdays.

A CPR certification class will be held on Oct. 17 before an end-of-session activity day Nov. 3

The course will be held at the department’s headquarters at the Forsyth County Public Safety Complex, 3520 Settingdown Road.

Participants must be 18 or older, have no prior felony convictions, pass an acceptable background check and be a county resident. They must be willing to make a 10-week commitment to the program.

Those interested must submit an application, as well as a signed and notarized liability release and confidentiality agreement.

Applications can be found online at forsythco.com. They can be mailed to the department addressed to Rebecah Green, faxed to (770) 781-2194 or emailed to rlgreen@forsythco.com.
