A 17-year-old has been charged with murder in the shooting death of a 21-year-old Cleveland man.

More charges could be filed against Christopher T. Courville as the investigation continues, according to a press release from the White County Sheriff’s Office.

The case is being investigated by the Sheriff’s Office and Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

The investigation began after Savon Williams was found dead about 2 p.m. Friday. He was shot in the basement at 50 Eagle Ridge Trail, Cleveland, according to Chief Deputy Bob Ingram.

“It was a residence where there were several young adults there,” Sheriff Neal Walden said Sunday.

Ingram said the men knew each other, but authorities don’t yet know a motive.

The house is in a subdivision off Old Highway 75 southeast of Cleveland.

Courville is being held in the White County Detention Center. He had a first appearance hearing on Saturday at the jail and was bound over to Superior Court for any bond proceedings, Walden said.

The suspect had a Michigan address and “had been living (locally), but I don’t know how long he had been here,” Walden said.

Otherwise, the sheriff said, “the investigation is ongoing, so I’m really guarded as to how much (I) can (say) at this point.”
