A Hall County man is accused of beating his mother’s caregiver under the suspicion the mother was abused, according to testimony Monday.

Timothy Craig Edge, 42, appeared in Magistrate Court to answer to aggravated battery and kidnapping charges from an alleged brass knuckle assault June 30.

Hall County Sheriff’s Office investigator Jerry Phillips testified about his interviews with the victim Kimberly Sutton and others involved in the case.

According to the investigator, Sutton was the caretaker for Edge’s mother. When taken to the hospital, Edge’s mother reportedly had a fracture in her pelvic bone.

“Ms. Sutton said that Mr. Edge thought (Sutton) had something to do with it,” Phillips said.

When Edge, Edge’s girlfriend Erica Joy Dean and Sutton arrived at a residence on Ga. 52, Sutton reportedly saw Edge with a pair of brass knuckles.

Phillips said Sutton was punched in the back of the head and was struck repeatedly by Edge and Dean.

According to the warrants, Sutton suffered broken ribs, serious disfigurement to her eye, a fractured tailbone, a head laceration and large bruises on her back.

Phillips said Edge later received new information regarding his mother.

“The hospital had advised the family that (the mother’s) injuries were not as a result of any type of physical abuse,” Phillips said.

Sutton took the stand following Phillips’ testimony, saying Edge and Dean offered her a beer and a cigarette after the alleged beating.

“They took a pillow and was trying to stop the bleeding from the back of her head,” Phillips said.

Sutton testified about telling Edge to “just let me clean up” and saying she wouldn’t tell anyone.

According to the warrants, Dean was charged with putting Sutton in a van and “moving her to a different location while her bleeding stopped.”

Phillips said the van was driven to the rear of the residence and parked behind a storage building. The Sheriff’s Office has not recovered the van, the investigator said.

When interviewed by authorities, Edge allegedly blamed the whole incident on Dean, Phillips said.

Edge reportedly told the investigator he has brass knuckles that are “family heirlooms” but he did not have them at the time of the incident.

Representing Edge at the hearing, attorney C. David Turk argued against the kidnapping charge, citing the victim’s testimony about others putting her in the van.

“Based on what I heard today, I question the level of her involvement given the performance of the alleged victim and Mr. Edge’s statement from the officer blaming it all on her,” Dean’s attorney Dan Sammons said Monday.

The aggravated battery and kidnapping charges were bound over to Superior Court.
