Town hall meeting

When: 7 p.m. Monday

Where: Coal Mountain Community Building, 3560 Settingdown Road

Forsyth County Commissioner Patrick Bell plans to hold a town hall meeting Monday night to discuss the county's budget and proposed character area map.

The meeting is set for 7 p.m. at the Coal Mountain Community Building.

"This is a good opportunity for people to come and just dialogue a little bit and ask questions," said Bell, who represents much of north Forsyth.

Some information will be presented, he said, then the floor will open to questions.

Though the forum will take place in District 4, it's open to all county residents.

Bell originally called the meeting to discuss the proposed character area map, which is part of the required update to the county's comprehensive plan.

The character areas, which will be refined by public feedback, depict the distinct features of geographic areas.

Possible types include development corridor, heavy industrial or suburban living.

The formal public hearing for the full community assessment and community participation plan, which includes the new map, is tentatively scheduled for Aug. 5.

With budget talks continuing, Bell decided to also include the county's finances in the forum.

Holding the meetings in a smaller, community setting opens the doors to those who may be intimidated by the large county administration building and formal setting, he said.

"When I have meetings in [my] district, they're pretty well attended," Bell said.
