Program organizers are seeking volunteers for the third year of the Keep Forsyth County Beautiful Mobile Trash Unit initiative.

Launched in 2010, the program targets roadside litter in the county by holding cleanup dates throughout the year.

Residents can get involved in the cleanups through either the family or high school mobile trash units.

The family unit cleanups are designed for volunteers of all ages and groups of all types.

They provide a monthly opportunity for volunteers to get out and address litter issues around the county.

The group will meet at 3 p.m. every third Sunday.

This year’s family cleanup dates are Jan. 15, Feb. 19, March 18, April 15, May 20, June 17, July 15, Aug. 19, Sept. 16, Oct. 21, Nov. 18 and Dec. 16.

The high school mobile trash unit focuses on providing students with monthly service opportunities and a chance to have an impact on the county’s beauty.

This group will meet at 4 p.m. every second Thursday.

Its cleanup dates are Jan. 12, Feb. 9, March 8, April 12, May 10, June 14, July 12, Aug. 9, Sept. 13, Oct. 11, Nov. 8 and Dec. 13.

Locations for both types of cleanup efforts will change each month based on need. They will be announced to participants the week prior to the cleanup by e-mail.

“The mobile trash unit initiative has had strong participation in its first two years,” said Kevin Smith, community outreach specialist with Keep Forsyth County Beautiful.

“We are looking to keep the program’s momentum going and hope to have even more participants take part in the MTU cleanups in 2012.”
