Citing the threat of winter weather, the Forsyth County school system has canceled all district events, activities and athletics tonight through noon Saturday.

Jennifer Caracciolo, spokeswoman for the district, said the postponement most likely will not affect Saturday night activities.

Students and parents should contact their individual schools for rescheduling information for Friday events.

"Those will be handled on a case by case basis," she said.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for areas along and north of a line from Rome to Canton to Cumming, from 6 tonight through 1 p.m. Saturday.

The advisory notes the chance of "light sleet and snow accumulations of a dusting to a half inch."

In addition, the weather service has issued a winter storm warning for an area that roughly includes Gainesville and areas north through Saturday.

A mix of wintry precipitation is expected and accumulations are likely in some areas.
