DAWSONVILLE — The body of a woman has been found inside an abandoned car near Ga. 400 in Dawson County.

Dawson County Sheriff's investigators were at the scene Thursday morning.

While the registration on the car comes back to a missing person from Atlanta, Sheriff's Capt. Tony Wooten said it is still too early in the investigation to release additional details.

"I can't confirm this is the missing woman at this time," he said.

The owner of a business and medical office building on Lumpkin Campground Road alerted authorities Thursday morning that the car had been in the parking lot for several days.

Officers found the woman’s body inside the vehicle.

"Our investigators are on the scene now, along with investigators with the district attorney's office, collecting evidence and working to obtain a search warrant," he said.

Wooten would not release how the woman died.

"We won't speculate at this time. The investigation is still in its infancy right now," he said.
