A two-vehicle crash on Ga. 400 north Tuesday afternoon has been cleared, but the traffic jam that ensued has disrupted the evening commute.

No one was injured in the wreck, which occurred near Pilgrim Mill Road/Exit 16 about 3:45 p.m., but the vehicles were “stuck together,” which delayed clearing the scene, said Doug Rainwater, spokesman for the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office.

Traffic slowed to a halt about an hour later as authorities awaited a tow truck to remove the wreckage from the corridor, Rainwater said.

“But the backlog is huge,” he said. “We will not recover the mess.”

Ga. 400 south was also experiencing delays due to roadwork near Alpharetta.

The construction caused traffic to stretch so far, that some vehicles were backing up on exit ramps, Rainwater said.

The work ended about 3:30 p.m., he said, and southbound traffic was starting to move.
