This letter is in response to Mr. Sid Barfield’s letter published in March 2 edition of the Forsyth County News. Name calling is not a very effective technique, even if you are writing to the emotion based individual.
You mentioned the old west days where everyone was armed. A little research will show shootouts at the OK Corral were not that common.
An armed society is a polite society. Churches have not always been gun free zones. A rash of church robberies in Jacksonville, Fla., is the late ’70s caused church leaders to request qualified members to carry concealed for protection of the congregation, much like the colonists and westward moving pioneers, who certainly brought their guns. The proposed law leaves it up to the individual church, bar, college or other entity to determine if they choose to allow concealed carry, it is not mandatory.
If you are a criminal planning your next revenue enhancement project are you going to choose a police precinct, gun range or a gun free zone? Gun free zones only keep the honest citizen from protecting themselves and others. I would like to thank you for advising people to do their civic duty and contact their representative; I have. By the way, you might want to check out Connecticut.
