Letter to the editor
Ours is a nation with Christian roots

I find it not too uncommon for those that don’t like the truth to attack the messenger. Personal attacks seem to be the easy way to try and overcome an argument when the facts are not on your side.

I suggest for Ms. Rigney’s [letters to the editor, 11/22] enlightenment reading Dr. Jerry Newcombe’s book — 'The Book that Made America” or Robert Knight’s book — “Fighting for America’s Soul.” Also, David Barton has many books, and much information, on his Wallbuilders website.

I don’t know what schools Ms. Rigney attended, but unfortunately it seems recent graduates from the public school system have a distorted view of history, if they retained any at all. I suggest she read the first Thanksgiving Proclamation by President George Washington, easily found online.

Also, heres a quote from our first Supreme Court Chief Justice, John Jay: “Providence has given to our people the choice of our rulers and it is the duty, as well as the privilege and interest, of a Christian nation to select and prefer Christians for its rulers.” A line has to be drawn at some point; tolerance is more a measurement, than a goal, Ms. Rigney.

For instance, I can tolerate fire ants at the edge of my property, but when they get in my yard, I begin to lose my tolerance for them. Just so, I can tolerate false ideology up to a point, but when political correctness, and ignorance start to overwhelm the basic foundations of our liberty, you’re right, I dont tolerate that well at all. It would be wise for Ms. Rigney, and like-minded others to review the history of our long war with the Barbary powers (Muslims). Their ideology has long justified terrorist attacks, and the killing or enslavement of infidel  non-believers. You might review an article by Chritopher Hitchen’s a reknowned atheist, if you dont care for a Christian’s view — http://www.city-journal.org/html/17_2_urbanities-thomas_jefferson.html.  By the way, any that do call themselves Christian, please go to manhattandeclaration.org and sign the petition.
