Lets be honest about deer-vehicle collisions

Forsyth County News
I cannot object to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ plan to allow 21 bow hunters to harvest 42 deer on 600 acres around the Buford Dam. This is a regrettable but probably necessary action to improve public safety and the health of the deer population which has had its habitat reduced by humans.

I am concerned about the claim by the state Department of Natural Resources that, “there are about 50,000 deer-vehicle collisions annually in Georgia.” This statistic is deceptive and irrelevant to the action planned in our area. How many deer-vehicle collisions actually occurred annually in the Buford Dam area or Forsyth County or Gwinnett County? Don’t tell me the DNR doesn’t know. Have other collision abatement measures such as fences been explored?
