West Forsyth’s competitive cheerleaders claimed a state runner-up trophy on Saturday, finishing behind only Columbus in the state finals in Columbus.
The Wolverines had finished third in Region 7-AAA before claiming a first-place finish in sectionals on Friday, before heading into the finals.
“They worked so hard and really focused on what they needed to do for their final weekend of the season. Our focus the entire week was to not only stay focused but to have fun,” coach Meghan Ammons said.
“[The] majority of the girls on the team have been cheering since they were little girls, and they have always had the dream to be a successful competitive high school cheerleader. We have focused on perfection and having fun throughout
the entire season,” Ammons said, noting that the team won six invitationals this season.
South Forsyth’s cheerleading team also had a successful finish over the weekend, finishing third in Class AAAAA.
Forsyth Central also competed in the state meet in Class AAAA.
