CULLOWHEE, N.C. – Forsyth Central graduate Danny Bermudez was one of three Western Carolina players on the postseason All-Southern Conference teams announced Monday morning by the league office.
The junior catcher collected second team honors from the league’s coaches at the catcher position. He ranks third on the WCU squad among the starters with a .324 batting average, collecting 58 hits including 22 for extra bases this spring. His 14 doubles and seven home runs rank second only to Bradley Strong on the squad. He tallied a career-long 11-game hitting streak during the season for the Catamounts. Honored for his work behind the plate, the Cumming, native has also seen time at first base, in the outfield and as the designated hitter for WCU this season.
A junior team captain and the first junior recipient of the Leggett No. 7 Legacy at WCU, Bermudez was listed on the initial Johnny Bench Award Watch List in mid-March. He was plunked by a pitch 13 times during the regular season, the third-most of any player in the SoCon.
