Kell at Forsyth Central

When, where: Friday, 7:30 p.m., Bulldog Stadium in Cumming.

Records, rankings: Kell is 2-1 overall, 0-0 in Region 7-AAAAA, Div. B and ranked No. 8 in Class AAAAA; Central is 2-1, 0-0 and unranked.

Series history: Kell leads 2-0.

Last meeting: Kell won 28-14 in 2014.

What to know: It was this game last season that portended Forsyth Central’s 6-4 campaign. Yes, the Bulldogs lost 28-14, but it was the fact that Central was within a touchdown against a Kell team then ranked No. 5 in Class AAAAA that served notice. Surely, the Bulldogs aren’t interested in moral victories this time, especially coming off a discouraging 42-18 loss to Cass last week. Central’s potent backfield duo of Shaun Diebel and Sabrian Howard combined for just 45 yards on 18 carries, while the Bulldogs lost four fumbles.

They’ll need to do better against a Longhorns team that’s ranked again – and no surprise since they haven’t allowed a point to an opponent below Class AAAAAA yet this season. Kell’s defense is led by senior linebacker and Kennesaw State commitment Bryson Armstrong, who has 25 tackles, two sacks and returned a fumble for a touchdown. Oh, and he’s dangerous on special teams; Armstrong returned two punts for touchdowns in Kell’s 35-0 season-opening win against Carrollton. But there’s also sophomore running back Josiah Futral, who rushed for 147 yards and a touchdown last week in Kell’s 31-0 victory against Sequoyah.
