North Springs at Forsyth Central
When, where: Friday, 7:30 p.m., at Bulldog Stadium in Cumming.
Records, rankings: North Springs is 1-6, 0-4 in Region 7-AAAAA, Div. B and unranked; Central is 2-5, 0-4 and unranked.
Series history: Central leads 7-2.
Last meeting: Central won 49-21 in 2014.
What to know: After five losses in a row, it’s more than likely that Shane Williamson’s Bulldogs get back on track against North Springs. Central is the second team from Forsyth County to face North Springs this year. Pinecrest opened against the Spartans and won in convincing fashion, 42-15, despite being a Class A school going against a Class AAAAA school. North Springs’ only win of the season came by 3 points against 0-7 River Ridge.
Central was shutout by Sprayberry last week in a battle between the trenches, falling 9-0, but should find room on offense against a Spartans defense that has surrendered 38.8 points per game. On offense, North Springs has only scored more than 20 once all season and has scored a touchdown or less four times.
With Shaun Diebel working back into the running back rotation after a mid-season injury, Central will rely on him and its leading rusher, Sabrian Howard, to gash the Spartans defense. Howard has 107 carries for 530 yards and five touchdowns, while quarterback Jagger Harsthorn currently leads the team with seven scores on the ground.
