HOSCHTON – Down after one quarter and playing in an hostile environment, the Lambert girls basketball team’s senior core refused to lose.
With clutch free throws and solid rebounding, the third-seeded Longhorns held off No. 2 seed Mill Creek for a 60-50 victory Friday in the first round of the Class 7A state playoffs.
Lambert advances to play the winner of Central Gwinnett and Newton.
“I’m so proud of all the girls,” Lambert head coach Jamie Fisher said. “We went into a tough atmosphere, got down early and were able to not fold, battle back and win. It was a great game.”
Skylar Aledia led the Longhorns with 17 points, including 13 in the crucial fourth quarter on two three-pointers and 7 of 8 free throws.
“She came alive for us, which seniors do that,” Fisher said. “They don’t want it to be over.”
Reagan Pasonski, another senior, helped Lambert overcome a 19-14 deficit after the first quarter with two three-pointers in the second quarter. The Longhorns led 30-27 by the half, and Pasonski finished with 13 points.
Sidney Chason, Jaleah Greene and Katie Schwind -- all seniors -- each added eight points apiece for Lambert.
